You may be wondering you is responsible or liable for my
damages?
Under Florida law, the dog owner is strictly liable for any injuries
caused by the dog, so long as you are lawfully on the property of the dog owner
or if you are in a public place. Strict liability means that even if the dog
owner did not intend to harm you or even if they were not negligent, they are
responsible for the injuries caused by their pet. The only thing that needs to
be proven is ownership of the dog. Please note, if you were trespassing on the
property, you will not be considered “lawfully” on that property, and the owner
may not be held responsible under those circumstances.
What if there is a “Bad Dog” or “Beware of Dog” sign?

If the sign is displayed in a prominent place that is easily readable by the public,
then there may not be liability under the statute.
What if I live in an apartment and my neighbor’s dog bit me?

Florida law provides that a landlord may be responsible for dog bites
occurring on its property. A landlord has an obligation to make the premises
reasonable safe for all tenants. If it was reasonably foreseeable that a tenant could be injured by a dangerous dog and the landlord did not take steps to remedy the problem, then the landlord may be responsible.
